Responsibilities
- Lead safety engineering activities across the full project lifecycle.
- Develop key Safety Artifacts such as Safety Cases, Safety Plans and Hazard Logs.
- Conduct HAZID (HAzard IDentification) and risk assessment workshops using techniques such as HAZOPs, STPA and SWIFT.
- Apply qualitative and quantitative safety techniques including FHA, FMECA, FTA, ETA and Bow-Tie analysis.
- Provide robust safety evidence and assurance to customers and stakeholders.
- Support multiple projects across a range of innovative technologies and platforms.
- Experience in Functional or System Safety within a safety-critical environment.
- Knowledge of Safety Management Systems and safety case development.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Understanding of standards and regulations such as DEF STAN 00-55/56, IEC 61508Functional Safety of E/E/PE Safety-Related Systems. The umbrella functional safety standard defining the safety lifecycle, SILA discrete level (SIL 1 to SIL 4) specifying the required risk reduction and dependability of a safety function under IEC 61508 and its sector standards. - Ability to assess risk, influence design decisions and solve complex engineering challenges.
Nice to have
- Defence, Aerospace, Rail, Nuclear, Marine, Automotive or other safety-critical industry experience.
- Experience in related disciplines such as RAM, Human Factors or EcoDesign.
- Knowledge of UK MoD, MAA, CAA or Maritime regulatory environments.
